Update to the story

It has been reported by CNN that Bristol Palin is currently pregnant. They are claiming that Bristol is 5 months pregnant. Congratulations Bristol. You have a great journey in front of you and we are sure you will have many happy moments, with your second child.

We have consulted a nurse of 33 years who has her masters degree as to the possibility of giving birth and getting pregnant within a month. She not only said it is possible but mentioned several cases she is currently dealing with or has dealt with in the past where siblings are only 10 months apart. The revelation by the Palin family that 17 year old Bristol Palin is currently pregnant only proves one thing in our minds. Abstinence only education simply does not work. Read On...



Sarah Palin has stated in interviews that she does not support sex education programs. Programs that, were they taught in schools, would have taught Bristol about contraceptives and the dangers of having unprotected sex. Sarah Palin is a proponent of abstinence only education which is a form of sex education that emphasizes abstinence from sex to the exclusion of all other types of sexual and reproductive health education, particularly regarding birth control and safe sex. This type of sex education promotes sexual abstinence until marriage and either completely avoids any discussion about the use of contraceptives, or only reveals failure rates associated with such use. Proponents of abstinence-only sex education argue that this approach is superior to comprehensive sex education for several reasons.

Is Trig Bristol's Baby?

It has been reported that Sarah Palin's fifth and most recent baby is really her teenage daughter's child. Trig Palin was born on April 18, 2008. What's odd about this is that Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska and now the republican Vice Presidential nominee, waited until March 5th, 2008 to announce to the media that she was 7 months pregnant. Palin was 44 at the time of the announcement. While Sarah Palin did not appear pregnant in any recent photographs, pictures of the family during the time of the pregnancy have surfaced which show Bristol with what appears to be a “baby bump”.

To add to the drama surrounding this birth, Students who have attended classes with Bristol Palin at an Anchorage high school report that she had been out of school for months, claiming a prolonged case of mono. The announcement came as quite a shock to people who had worked closely with Governor Palin. Some have been quoted as saying that she did not appear pregnant whatsoever during the prior 7 months.

Adding even more fuel to the fire, the Alaska Department of State has now taken down all the photos of Sarah Palin and her family from their website. Word of the pregnancy scandal is spreading around the Internet like wildfire. According to one source, people “in the know” from Alaska are stating it is true, and that Sarah Palin hid her daughter’s pregnancy. And that the child, Trig Palin, might actually belong to her daughter, Bristol.

So, is Trig Palin really Bristol Palin's baby? Did Governor Sarah Palin cover up for Bristol Palin? Was Bristol Palin Pregnant and did she give birth to Trig Palin? Why does this matter? Because Sarah Palin is now the presumptive Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States of America. She is not only a pro-life advocate, she is an abstinence only proponent which means if her 16 year old daughter Bristol Palin was pregnant, her message simply doesn't work! 	Kay, I have said many times that I am not defending Sarah Palins, per se, I am commenting on the demonization of her and her daughter, when they are just going through the same thing that 750,000 other American families go through every year. They thought abstinence would work, others thought birth control would work. The end result is the same (pregnancy), and those that don't go through it know very well that they were just lucky. Whatever else you think of Palin, why would any decent person heap ridicule and venom on her for this? Some people are even giving David Letterman a pass for his tasteless "jokes", if it had been ANYONE else he would have been universally condemned. And it would be nice if I could get a real answer that doesn't just regurgitate some warmed up talking points that have nothing to do with the issue.

	And a lot of people who have chastised the Palins make me sick. The child that I am carrying is evidence that birth control is not 100% effective. Yes, I was taking BCP (and yes, I was actually taking them). Just goes to show that there's a reason birth control is only 99% effective, even when used correctly.

	Margaret, you speak of Palin's opinions as being well-founded, yet it seems they are not her opinions but Newt Gingrich's opinions since she plagiarized most of her last speech from his writings. Of course, however, she tried to cover up her lies with a mere mentioning of his name. She is a fake, liar, and not fit to serve in public office. However, I would like to say that agree with your statement that if your son were to impregnant a girl his college would be over. But, Palin's daughter will go to college; the tax payers will foot that bill as an unwed mother; she can get loans, grants, federal funding. These backalley Republicans make me sick.

	GH, I don’t know where you are located, but I doubt you can hang all of those 750,000 unplanned pregnancies on a lack of sex-ed. I’d like to find an American teenager who has never heard of condoms or birth control pills. The important part of sex education is not the biology (which is probably already covered in the health classes you mention) but the whole context of sex: is it just something you just do for recreational pleasure, or is it connected to settling down in a committed relationship. Do you really want some teacher - with who knows what kind of agenda - instructing your child in this regard? This is the PARENT'S prerogative and duty. While I agree that times have changed, I don’t think the mildly permissive attitude of “we’d rather you didn’t, but if you do…” serves kids very well. As adults we know that, if a girl starts having sex at age 14, she will probably be feeling like a used tissue by the time she is 18 or 19. If she is lucky, she will come away with just the dawning realisation that all those eager adolescent boys were not in love with her, just after her body. If not, she could be carrying some emotional baggage into her adult years, along with an STD or two, and maybe even be “punished” with a baby (no contraceptive is 100% effective). Delegating this momentous decision to her at an age where we would probably veto a tattoo or nose-ring is crazy. Call me idealistic, but I think that instilling one's values (including respect for others), raising a confident child who can resist peer pressure, maintaining adequate supervision, and putting in some level of fear of the consequences, can work at least as well as just giving up and handing out condoms or pills. (My son has known since the age of 12 that if he knocks a girl up, his promised university education is toast, he’ll have to get a job to support the girl and the baby and we'll be doing a world cruise with the money. I’ll bet that gives him at least some cause to pause). In any case, I am neither religious nor a Palin adherent, I am simply pointing out that I think there is actually a reasonable case for teaching abstinence, at least as an option. Disagree with Sarah Palin if you like, but I don’t see why she should be demonized for her opinion, or why it should be discounted because in one particular case it didn’t work out.
